Lectures and conversations on "Privatsache / Private Matter"

On Friday and Saturday during the second festival weekend, however, the Biennale will welcome four guests from areas that are outside of the fields of opera and music theatre. And so sociologist Saskia Sassen, who works in New York, the Austrian author Marlene Streeruwitz, and the American architect Daniel Libeskind (in a discussion with the artistic director of the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Stephan Pauly) will contemplate the essence of a "private matter" from (spatio-)philosophical and socio-theoretical perspectives.
Stephan Pauly Lecturer
Stephan Pauly studierte Philosophie, Theologie sowie Theater- und Opernregie in München und Rom. Pauly wirkte als künstlerischer Leiter und kaufmännischer Geschäftsführer der Internationalen Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg und ist seit 2012 Intendant und Geschäftsführer der Alten Oper Frankfurt.
Daniel Libeskind Lecturer
Daniel Libeskind ist ein US-amerikanischer Architekt und Stadtplaner, der 1946 in Polen geboren wurde, nach Israel emigrierte, 1960 mit seiner Familie in die USA auswanderte und dort die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft annahm. Zu seinen bekanntesten Bauwerken gehören unter anderem das Jüdische Museum Berlin, das Felix-Nussbaum-Haus in Osnabrück oder das Denver Art Museum.
Saskia Sassen Lecturer
Saskia Sassen is the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology and Member, The Committee on Global Thought, Columbia University (www.saskiasassen.com). Her new book is Expulsions: Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy (Harvard University Press 2014) now out in 15 languages. Recent books are Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages ( Princeton University Press 2008), A Sociology of Globalization (W.W.Norton 2007), and the 4th fully updated edition of Cities in a World Economy (Sage 2012). Among older books are The Global City (Princeton University Press 1991/2001), and Guests and Aliens (New Press 1999). Her books are translated into over 20 languages. She is the recipient of diverse awards and mentions, including multiple doctor honoris causa, named lectures, and being selected as one of the top global thinkers on diverse lists. Most recently she was awarded the Principe de Asturias 2013 Prize in the Social Sciences and made a member of the Royal Academy of the Sciences of Netherland.
Marlene Streeruwitz Lecturer
Marlene Streeruwitz, in Baden bei Wien (Niederösterreich) geboren, studierte Slavistik und Kunstgeschichte. Sie ist freie Texterin und Journalistin sowie freiberufliche Autorin und Regisseurin. Ihr literarisches Werk wurde vielfach ausgezeichnet, u.a. mit dem Mara-Cassens-Preis, dem Hermann Hesse-Preis sowie dem Franz Nabl-Preis. Bei Suhrkamp erschienen zuletzt ihr Roman "Yseut" sowie ein Band mit neuen Vorlesungen ("Das Wundersame in der Unwirtlichkeit"). Streeruwitz lebt in Wien, London und New York.
David Roesner moderation
Prof Dr David Roesner is Professor for Theatre and Music-Theatre at the LMU Munich. He previously worked at the Universities of Hildesheim, Exeter and Kent. In 2007 he won the Thurnau Award for Music-Theatre Studies for his article "The politics of the polyphony of performance". Recent publications include Theatre Noise. The Sound of Performance (with Lynne Kendrick, CSP, 2011), Composed Theatre. Aesthetics, Practices, Processes (with Matthias Rebstock, Intellect, 2012) and his latest monograph Musicality in Theatre.
